I used to compete in badminton tournments way back in grade school. Badminton was relatively an unfamiliar sport then as compared now. My teammate and I won in the mixed-doubles category division level. Based on that result, we were supposed to advance to the regional level. But my name was not part of the list of players who will be representing our place for the regions and I was kinda disappointed so I shifted to basketball during my first year in high school. I felt like I was not fit to be part of the bball team for some reasons so I tried my luck in table tennis and I was able to represent our place in the regions. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not that good at table tennis but only few of us were interested to play the sport (it’s difficult to find a table in order to play regularly so why bother :p). I was given the chance to participate in the regions for three consecutive years. I must say, sports were really part of my life back then.
When I went to college, I played table tennis and a little bit of basketball during my freshman year but after that short stint I wasn’t able to give time for any kind of sport. It all boiled down to priorities and the lack of opportunity to play. I played some badminton and table tennis with friends but those were plainly for fun and to keep us physically fit (daw) once in a while.
Recently, the lex circle in school hosted a badminton tournament which was open for all students provided that we would form a team for mixed-doubles. It was a round-robin type of competition and fortunately my teammate Feil and I landed as champions =) The road to championship wasn’t a smooth one. There were also teams who were really equipped and capable of winning. I didn’t have a formal badminton training for quite some time and I was just lucky to have a strong teammate (again, in mixed-doubles). Feil was the “main man” but somehow I also did my part =P
teammates: 210 repsP.S. with much love and thanks to our classmates and friends who supported and cheered for us during our games (210 strikes again!).
