Fast Break

I was watching American Idol this week and the theme was songs from the 80's. It was great, I like 80's music. Most of the songs were familiar and I could somehow spot if the contestants made a certain song their own or at least they paid respect to their chosen songs.

For the guys, my top three for 80's night would be Jason Castro, David Cook and David Archuleta. I like Jason Castro because he didn't have enough TV/camera time during his audition and Hollywood week and he turned out to be one of the best guys in the competition. Add the fact that he sang Hallelujah, nuff said.

As for David Cook, it was really nice of him to turn a Lionel Richie song into some sort of slow rock/emo-ish. My problem with this guy is that he will never make it to the top 2. Unless Michael Johns would keep screwing up his songs and David Archuleta would drop-out from the competition due to his vocal paralysis thingy (knock on the wood).

Aside from the fact that David Archuleta is good looking and likable, he can really sing and he's also good at playing the piano. I think, music is some sort of life itself for this guy and he's using it as a tool to convey what's going on inside his heart and mind. Every time he's being ask about his song choices he relates them to societal problems or changing the world to make it a better place kind of thing.hehehe. Not bad coming from a 17 year-old guy. His deep breathing is quite annoying, though.

As for the girls, there are no outstanding performances so far. They're really good but they still have to have their own "moment"(quoting Simon). My top 3 for the girls is generally based from their performances since Day 1 and not just from the theme because clearly the 80's week was owned by the guys.

First on my list is Carly Smithson, among the girls she's the one to beat. Forget about the previous record deal. It failed and that's the reason why she's on AI so that it won't happen again (I hope so).

Second, Ramiele Malubay, yes, she's Filipino but she has a good voice and she's also likable. I agree with some people saying that they like her because she's really good and talented and not just because she is a Filipina.

My third choice is Brooke White; she keeps picking the right songs. That's the only reason I got as of now.

As for the others, they will have to exert extra effort if they still want to stay in the competition or at least make it to the AI tour.

Kady, Luke, Danny, Asia'h were eliminated from the show. Too bad for Asia'h..

xoxo
